Census1940Alcee Rivette (given age 54) was enumerated on the 1940 census as the head of a household, living on the Leonville-Port Barre Gravel Road at St. Landry Parish, LA. Also living with him was his wife, Celenia Rivette (given age 53); his sons David Rivette (given age 26) and Alcee Rivette Jr (given age 22); and his daughter Rita Rivette (given age 17). They lived just down the road from Alcee's brother, Placide. They owned their home, which was valued at $700. Alcee had a second grade education, and Celenia a seventh grade education. He worked the farm for his own account. During the week before the census was taken, he worked 25 hours, and was employed for 25 weeks in 1939.8
DraftRegAlcee Rivette registered for the fourth draft for World War II on 27 Apr 1942. This registration was also known as the "old man's draft". At that time, his residence was in Leonville, St. Landry Parish, LA, and he gave the name of his wife, Celina Rivette, as someone who would always know his address. Alcee was described as about five feet seven inches tall, 225 pounds, with blue eyes, gray hair, and ruddy complexion. He was self employed.9
