Research Notes:

According to family stories, Benjamin was married a first time in Pennsylvania, but his wife died young and left no children. No confirmation of this early marriage has yet been found.
However, an interesting marriage record shows a Benjamin Cole married to Catharine Freed on 10 Mar 1822, at Whitpain Reformed Church, Bluebell, Montgomery County, PA (also called Boehm's Reformed Church), by Rev. George Wack.2 The same couple is shown in another reference (possibly the original source of the above record) as being married by same pastor at same church and date, at Skippack, Montgomery County, PA.3
This marriage has not been confirmed to be for our Benjamin, but the timing is plausible. He would have been about 21 years old at that time. It certainly bears checking out. Need to get a copy of the original record if possible to see if more info is available on this couple.2,3
