MilitaryCornelius Barnhisel served in the military as a Union private during the Civil War. He was drafted and enrolled 9 Dec 1864, at LaPorte, IN, in Company I, 12th Indiana Infantry Regiment. He also served with Company G, 59th Indiana Infantry Regiment, by Transfer General Order #47 on 08 Jun 1865. He was sick at New Bern, NC since 23 Apr 1965. Although he technically survived the Civil War, he fell sick and died before he could return home.9,2
DeathHe died of galloping consumption on 12 Jul 1865, at a confederate prison hospital near Alexandria, VA, at age 37.2,10
